Child does not speak, does the child has tongue tie?
If the child has attained the age when there should be proper meaningful speech but still has not started speaking then one should think of getting some tests done. It is very common myth that if the child is not speaking then the child is having tongue tie. But one should understand that tongue and more so the tip of the tongue has contributions in speaking some alphabets but not all the speech is produced by tongue tip. In tongue tie it is the movement or taking out of tip which is affected. In hindi it is the “त, थ, द, ध, वर्णमाला” which requires tip of the tongue. If the child is not speaking at all then there is high possibility that child is not hearing so firstly the hearing status of the child is to be investigated.
