Is cochlear implant surgery only done in children?
In India, the majority of the patients who undergo cochlear implant surgery are children. But worldwide, significant number of adult patients also undergo this procedure. The adults who were earlier hearing but have lost their hearing capacity due to some infection like meningitits or some medication or due to some injury, generally are the candidates for this surgery. Some systemic diseases like chronic kidney problem may also cause profound hearing loss.
